TOPS   THE   TURTLE
ANNA

There once was a brown turtle named Tops.

Tops lived in a pond with other creatures like himself.

He had a favorite log that he would climb onto and sun himself.

One day he swam over to his favorite log and his friend the frog was sitting on it.

Tops asked him to please jump off because that was his log.

The frog told Tops that he was on the log first.

This made Tops very angry and he began pushing the log with his shell.

The log flipped over and the frog went hopping off into the water.

Tops climbed back onto his log and began to sun himself.

The next day when Tops came to his log another creature was sitting on it.

This time his friend salamander was laying on his log.

Tops the turtle asked him to please get off his log.

The salamander told Tops that he was there first and to go away.

Again Tops flipped the log over and the salamander fell into the water.

Tops climbed back onto his log and started to sun himself.

The frog and salamander swam over to Tops as he lay there.

They told him that he should share his log with others.

They told him that they didn’t want to be his friend anymore.

Tops the turtle just ignored them and went on sunning himself.

The next day when Tops came to his log a giant duck was sitting on the log.

Tops tried to flip the log but the duck was to heavy.

Then the duck hit Tops hard on his back and flipped him over.

The duck told Tops that this was his log and he couldn’t sit on it any more.

Now Tops knew how his friends must have felt when he knocked them off.

Maybe if he had shared his log with his friends the duck wouldn’t have taken it.
